China Urges Protection of Trade After US Seizes Iranian Vessel
As stated by reports, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said Beijing rejects claims that are not supported by evidence and opposes linking such incidents to unverified assertions.
“Beijing opposes any accusations or associations that lack factual basis,” he told reporters.
His comments came in response to remarks attributed to US President Donald Trump, who said earlier in the week that the seized cargo vessel TOUSKA—taken by US forces after allegedly failing to comply with instructions in the Strait of Hormuz—was carrying what he described as a “gift from China.”
Guo emphasized that commercial activity between nations should remain free from interference. “Normal international trade between countries should not be interfered with or disrupted,” he said, according to the official transcript of the briefing.
The incident unfolds amid ongoing tensions and restrictions in the Strait of Hormuz, which have continued to affect global energy flows due to competing US and Iranian actions in the region.
Separately, Guo also addressed broader economic issues, warning against what he called the politicization of trade and security matters. He highlighted that China’s economic relations with other partners, including the European Union, are based on mutual benefit and cooperation, and stressed that dialogue and respect remain essential for stable international economic ties.
