Lawmakers Push for Trump’s Removal After Threat to Destroy Iran

(MENAFN) Several American lawmakers on Tuesday called for the use of the 25th Amendment to the United States Constitution to remove US President Donald Trump from office following his remarks threatening Iran.

The controversy erupted after Trump posted a stark message on his platform, Truth Social, saying: “A whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again,”

According to reports, Democratic leaders in the United States House of Representatives reacted strongly, describing the president as "completely unhinged" and warning that his comments about wiping out an entire civilization "shocks the conscience." They called for lawmakers to return to session immediately to consider measures aimed at stopping what they described as a “reckless war of choice,” cautioning that Trump could "plunges our country into World War III."

They also urged Republican members to place “patriotic duty over party loyalty.”

Representative Melanie Stansbury argued that Trump is "threatening mass killings and war crimes," saying such behavior reflects the very scenarios the constitutional amendment and impeachment process were designed to address.

Similarly, Representative Johnny Olszewski stated that the Cabinet should act under the amendment “if there’s any indication President Trump will follow through on this threat.”

Congressman Robert Garcia also criticized the president, saying he “lost his mind” and is “out of control,” while calling on Cabinet members to remain “loyal to the constitution” and proceed with invoking the amendment.
