Clintons Agree to Testify in Congressional Epstein Case
The couple has faced ongoing attention due to past associations with Epstein, including frequently shared photographs showing Bill Clinton in social settings with him. The former president has also confirmed that he traveled aboard Epstein’s private aircraft in the early 2000s, while firmly rejecting any suggestion that he was aware of or involved in illegal conduct.
The committee’s efforts to secure their testimony began last year, initially through informal requests that later progressed to formal subpoenas. Both Clintons resisted appearing, with their legal representatives dismissing the subpoenas as “invalid and legally unenforceable” and indicating that other forms of cooperation were being considered.
Tensions intensified after the committee voted to push forward a measure to cite the Clintons for contempt of Congress, a step that received backing from some members of the Democratic Party. If such a finding were upheld, the matter could theoretically be forwarded to the Justice Department, potentially creating grounds for criminal proceedings.
The situation shifted on Tuesday when committee chair Republican James Comer announced that Bill and Hillary Clinton had “agreed to appear for transcribed, filmed depositions to face questioning as part of the investigation related to Jeffrey Epstein.” According to the announcement, Hillary Clinton is scheduled to testify on February 26, followed by Bill Clinton on February 27.
