India, Russia Explore Deeper Defense Collaboration
The discussions were jointly led by Air Marshal Ashutosh Dixit, India’s Chief of Integrated Defence Staff, and Lieutenant General Igor Dylevsky of the Russian Armed Forces.
During the meeting, both sides assessed ongoing joint initiatives and explored opportunities to broaden cooperation in emerging defense technologies and the production of military equipment.
The talks come in anticipation of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s scheduled visit to India in December.
As one of the globe’s largest defense importers, India has historically depended heavily on Russia for both military hardware and technological expertise.
In recent months, New Delhi and Moscow have indicated potential new ventures focused on technology transfers for aviation, naval, and missile systems, aligning with India’s efforts to enhance domestic production under its “Make in India” initiative.
Earlier this year, Russia suggested manufacturing its fifth-generation Sukhoi Su 57 fighters within India.
According to reports, discussions are also ongoing regarding the possible joint production of the S-400 air defense systems currently supplied by Moscow to New Delhi, alongside the creation of shared maintenance facilities for existing systems.
