Romania’s Pro-Western Bloc Promises Reforms by 2028

(MENAFN) Romania's leading political forces came together Monday to seal a coalition agreement for a new pro-Western government, set to steer the country from 2025 to 2028. The deal emphasizes structural reform, stronger democratic institutions, and a stable economy.

The coalition, signed at the Senate building, brings together five major groups: the Social Democratic Party (PSD), National Liberal Party (PNL), Save Romania Union (USR), the Hungarian Democratic Union of Romania (UDMR), and the Parliamentary Group of National Minorities.

As part of the pact, the bloc has agreed to rotate the position of prime minister and prioritize clean governance, performance-based public service, steady investment, and a predictable environment for businesses. Preserving national unity and social balance is also a key aim of the alliance.

Prime Minister-designate Ilie Bolojan affirmed the coalition’s intent to tackle fiscal imbalances and drive systemic reform. The new alliance has pledged to reduce the budget deficit and carry out broad reforms aimed at ensuring sustained national growth, he stated.
