White House Cancels JD Vance Pakistan Trip

(MENAFN) According to reports, a planned visit by US Vice President JD Vance to Pakistan for a second round of negotiations involving Iran will not proceed as scheduled on Tuesday, following a decision by the White House.

A White House official, cited by the press pool, said, “In light of President (Donald) Trump’s Truth Social post confirming the United States is awaiting a unified proposal from the Iranians, the trip to Pakistan will not be happening today.”

The cancellation came shortly after President Trump announced that Washington would extend its ceasefire with Iran to allow additional time for Tehran to prepare what he described as a “unified proposal,” following a request from Pakistani officials.

Vance had been expected to lead a US delegation to Islamabad for renewed face-to-face talks with Iranian representatives. However, the visit was already subject to delays due to additional policy meetings taking place at the White House, according to US officials.

The proposed discussions would have followed an earlier round of high-level engagement in Pakistan earlier in the month, which ended without any agreement or diplomatic breakthrough.

The ceasefire, originally announced earlier this month, had been set to expire on Wednesday before the extension decision was made.
